We leave NY in a week and there’s still so much to do! We’re hammering out the details of our first few stops through Pennsylvania, getting the website looking pretty, creating our logo (thanks for the help Elyas!) and packing for the possibility that we won’t be back for several months! Even though summer tends to be pretty slow for the commercial photo industry, Rob has been working non stop for the past month. So I’ve been managing the project’s preparation, mostly on my own, and trying to keep to a minimum my frantic phone calls and emails to Rob. I’ve been so impressed with his willingness to go along with this hairbrained scheem of mine, and I appreciate how hard it is to work 8 hour days on set, and then come home to work another 4 or 5 hours on a personal project. There have been sleepless nights, empty bank accounts and artistic differences, but I think we’re managing to keep it together pretty well.
But when the car that we were planning to drive across the country broke down in front of the apartment last week, I had a momentary panic attack. I wondered if we were completely insane to think we could pull this off, having had only a little over a month to prepare. After the machanic took a look at our 8 year old Neon, and also questioned our sanity for expecting to make it to Denver and back without another incident, my parents offered to switch vehicles with us for the trip. Mom and dad save the day once again!
Then this week, after complaining of a tooth ache, Rob managed to get a last minute dentist appointment and ended up having to have an unscheduled root canal! So all in all it’s been an eventful couple of weeks! And I’m sure we’ll continue to have setbacks, and there will be times when things don’t work out exacly the way we expect. But Rob and I are so excited about this project and the enthusiasm of everyone involved in the grassroots movement for change, that I really feel like any hardships we face will be well worth it in the end… at the least they’ll make for exciting blog entries!
Time to hit the road!! Safe travels. I’m sure you’ll meet some really great people and see some interesting corners of the country.
